Flu epidemicEvery year, flu causes epidemics, which peak during the winter months. A flu pandemic is an epidemic on a continental or global scale, where a large proportion of the population become infected. However, it is less frequent: during the 20th century, there were only three pandemics.

Wash your hands frequently to protect you against any direct or indirect contact with the flu virus.

Opt for paper towels that you can throw away after use.
- If you have symptoms, stay away from places with many people so as not to infect others.

You are ill
- If you have flu symptoms, see your doctor.
- Avoid touching your nose, eyes or mouth as far as possible.
- Cover your mouth and nose with a handkerchief when you have to sneeze.
- Wash your hands as often as possible with soap and water. Wash them systematically after you cough or sneeze, and after blowing your nose.
- Use disposable tissues.
- Don't have the heating turned up too high at home.
- Do not go to school, work or a public place as long as you are ill.
- Drink plenty of water (1½ l per day).
One of your family is sick
- Wash your hands frequently with soap and water or a hydro alcoholic solution.
- Do not drink from the same glass and do not eat from the same plate as the sick person.
- Avoid close contact with the sick person as far as you can.
- If you have flu symptoms, see your doctor.

- Wash your laundry and that of your family at a temperature of 60° or above.
