    Flu epidemic
    Every year, flu causes epidemics, which peak during the winter months. A flu pandemic is an epidemic on a continental or global scale, where a large proportion of the population become infected. However, it is less frequent: during the 20th century, there were only three pandemics.
    • Wash your hands frequently to protect you against any direct or indirect contact with the flu virus.
       
    • Opt for paper towels that you can throw away after use.
       
    • If you have symptoms, stay away from places with many people so as not to infect others.

  • You are ill

    • If you have flu symptoms, see your doctor.
       
    • Avoid touching your nose, eyes or mouth as far as possible.
       
    • Cover your mouth and nose with a handkerchief when you have to sneeze.
       
    • Wash your hands as often as possible with soap and water. Wash them systematically after you cough or sneeze, and after blowing your nose.
       
    • Use disposable tissues.
       
    • Don't have the heating turned up too high at home.
       
    • Do not go to school, work or a public place as long as you are ill.
       
    • Drink plenty of water (1½ l per day).

     

    One of your family is sick

    • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water or a hydro alcoholic solution.
       
    • Do not drink from the same glass and do not eat from the same plate as the sick person.
       
    • Avoid close contact with the sick person as far as you can.

     

    • Wash your laundry and that of your family at a temperature of 60° or above.
